Low Calorie Oats Idli


1/2 Tbsp Channa dal

2 Cups Oats

A pinch of Eno fruit salt

2 Tbsp Salt

1/2 Tbsp Turmeric powder

2 Tbsp Coriander, finely chopped

1 Cup Carrots, grated

2 tsp Green chillies, finely chopped

1/2 Tbsp Oil

1 Tbsp Urad dal

1 Tbsp Mustard seeds

1/2 Litre Curd (slightly sour)

Low Calorie Oats Idli


1.Dry roast the oats on a tawa till it turns light brown in color and grind the oats to make powder.

2.Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, chana dal and urad dal and let the mustard seeds splutter and dal to turn golden brown.

3.Now add chillies, grated carrots, coriander and turmeric and mix it for a minute.

4.Take the oats mixture, add the above seasoning to it and add curd to make a batter of idli’s consistency.

5.Don’t add water in the batter. If you feel that the consistency is not as that of idli then you can add more curd in it to get proper consistency.

6.Now take the steamer,  grease oil on it and pour the idli batter in each area of the steamer and let it steam for about 15 minutes.

7.To check whether the idli is cooked, poke the idli with a knife and see if the batter does not stick to the knife. Once it is done take out the idlis and serve it along with onion chutney.
